Restoration, 2007-2009

The fortress of Sighisoara is a Transylvanian Saxon settlement documented in 1298. The foundation of the town dating from the twelfth century. Medieval complex of military, civil, ecclesiastical architecture of European value, Sighisoara is among the few inhabited fortress-cities in Europe and the only one preserved in most but also inhabited in Romania. The well-maintained substance of the medieval fortress of Sighisoara attracted the attention of the UNESCO organization so that in 1999 Sighisoara was declared a World Heritage Site - it is also on the list of World Heritage Cities protected monuments. Today, the historical and cultural heritage of the Sighisoara Fortress attracts an important number of tourists.

The project, which took place between 2007 and 2009, consisted in the restoration of the entire infrastructure of the medieval citadel, including the streets and squares. The pavement were executed in slabs, pavers and river stone, preserving the authentic atmosphere of the old town.
