Biertan Main Square

Urban development, 2003-2007

Besides the Biertan fortified church, which is an UNESCO listed historical monument, all the constructions in Piata 1 Decembrie are of architectural and historical interest, and all the fronts have a special environmental value. The project aimed to preserve the buildings but also reflected on the arrangement of the central space of the square, by turning the park in a mineral square, as it has been for centuries a free playground where the weekly fair took place, its original name being that of Marktplatz (Fair Square).
